Chair of Foresight at Alberta Innovates – Technology Futures (AITF) (Edmonton, AB)

Axel Meisen currently holds the Chair of Foresight, at Alberta Innovates - Technology Futures (AITF), working on long-term, strategic issues where AITF and Alberta can excel in building globally competitive commerce. Specifically, he leads the annual Jasper Innovation Forum where important future opportunities for Alberta (e.g., Health and the Global North) are explored.

Before joining AITF, Dr. Meisen was president and vice-chancellor of Memorial University of Newfoundland.  He previously held appointments as Professor of Chemical Engineering and Dean of Applied Science at the University of British Columbia.

Dr. Meisen is a Member of the Order of Canada and a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering and the Institution of Engineers of Ireland. He currently serves as President of the Canadian Commission for UNESCO and as a member of the Board of the Edmonton Opera Association.
