Captain Gordon Houston is the proprietor at Gordon Houston & Associates. He is also Vice Chair of the Global Transportation Hub Authority in Regina, Chair of the Vancouver Missions to Seafarers, and Executive Director at Strategic Resources Investment Corporation.
Captain Houston served in the British Merchant Navy for 24 years, where he commanded vessels up to 85,000 tonnes. In 1988 he was appointed as Harbour Master for the Port of Prince Rupert. In 1991, Captain Houston moved to the Port of Vancouver and served as Deputy Harbour Master, Harbour Master, and Vice President of Operations. He was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer for the Vancouver Port Authority in 2001 and appointed as President of the newly formed Port MetroVancouver in December 2007. Captain Houston retired in March 2009.
Captain Houston was former Chair of the Association of Canadian Port Authorities, the Greater Vancouver Gateway Council, the WESTAC Executive Committee, the Conference Board of Canada Transportation Council, and the Tanker Safety Expert Panel. He has been a member of the National Marine and Industry Council, the Board of Governors for BC Business Council, the Board of American Association of Port Authorities, and the Board of the Van Horne Institute in Calgary.
