Dr. Jérôme Marty is a Science Advisor with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO), an Associate Professor of Biology at the University of Waterloo, and a part-time Professor at the University of Ottawa. Dr. Marty is currently President of the Society of Canadian Limnologists (SCL), and a member of the Science Advisory Committee of the St Lawrence River Institute (SLRIES). He is the former President of the International Association of Great Lakes Research (IAGLR).
Dr. Marty holds a M.Sc. in Biological Sciences from the Université de Montréal, and a PhD in Biological Sciences from the Université du Québec à Montréal. Dr. Marty has more than 15 years of expertise related to the assessment of the impacts of perturbations on aquatic ecosystems via projects conducted within both the private and public sectors. 
Prior to joining DFO, Dr. Marty was Director of Environment at WSP Canada, where he led the first pan-Canadian risk assessment of marine spills of oil and hazardous noxious substances in Canadian waters. The results of this analysis contributed to the development of future directions for Canada’s World Class Tanker Safety Program.
