Christopher Murphy

Professor, Department of Sociology and Social Anthropology, Dalhousie University (Halifax, NS)

Christopher Murphy is a sociologist who specializes in academic and policy related research, with a special emphasis on Canadian policing development and reform. He holds PhD and MA in Anthropology.

Dr. Murphy has done original research and published a number of academic journal articles, book chapters and research reports on a broad range of policing issues for both academic and policy purposes. These issues include small-town policing, community and problem oriented policing, aboriginal policing, private policing, police resources, police culture, police research, police investigating police, and post-9/11 policing and security developments. 

He is currently working on sustainable public policing and contemporary police reform. In addition to his academic work, he has served as a research consultant to a number of Canadian police services, government policy bodies, and provincial and federal commissions of inquiry.
