Lorraine M. A. Whale

Lorraine Whale is the Manager of Unconventional Resource Research at Shell Global Solutions (Canada). Upon attaining her PhD in the early 1980s, Dr. Whale joined Shell Canada Limited where she started her career in research.

Since that time, Dr. Whale has assumed many positions, primarily in engineering management. The majority of her career has been in exploration and production; however, she has also assumed several corporate positions at Shell Canada, including as Information and Computing Project Manager, Manager of Human Resources and Manager of Health, Safety, Environment and Sustainable Development.

Dr. Whale is a member of the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta and the Society of Petroleum Engineers. She has served on many boards of not-for-profit organizations over the course of her career, which has spanned three decades. In 2005, Dr. Whale was appointed Adjunct Professor in the Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering and a Fellow of the Institute for Sustainable Energy, Environment and Economy at the University of Calgary.

Dr. Whale graduated from Memorial University of Newfoundland with a degree in Chemistry in 1978 and from the University of New Brunswick in 1982 with a PhD in Chemical Engineering.
