Tom Brzustowski is RBC Professor for the Commercialization of Innovation in the School of Management at the University of Ottawa and Chair of the Board at the Institute for Quantum Computing at the University of Waterloo. He is also the former President of the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (1995 – 2005).

A professional engineer, Dr. Brzustowski graduated with a B.A.Sc. in Engineering Physics from the University of Toronto in 1958, and a Ph.D. in Aeronautical Engineering from Princeton in 1963. Dr. Brzustowski was a professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Waterloo from 1962 to 1987. He also served as Chair of Mechanical Engineering, (1967 – 1970) Vice-President, Academic of the University (1975 – 1987) and Deputy Minister in the Government of Ontario (1987 – 1995).

Dr. Brzustowski holds honorary doctorates from a number of Canadian universities, and is a recipient of the Engineering Alumni Medal from the University of Toronto and the Gold Medal of the Ontario Society of Professional Engineers and the Professional Engineers of Ontario. He is an Officer of the Order of Canada and a fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering and of the Royal Society of Canada.
