Sheila
Brown is the former President and Vice-Chancellor of Mount Saint Vincent
University, a position she held from 1996 until her retirement in 2006.
She also held an academic appointment as Professor of Business. Since
her retirement, Dr. Brown has maintained her connections to academia as
a Professional Associate of the Centre for Higher Education Research and
Development (CHERD) at the University of Manitoba, acting as an instructor
in several CHERD programs.
An Honours graduate of Cambridge University, she also holds an MA and
Ph.D. from the University of Alberta. After completing her doctorate in
the area of consumer behaviour, she went on to hold faculty positions
in four universities.
She was recently selected by the Atlantic Chapter of the Canadian Breast
Cancer Foundation as one of fifty women honoured as “The Top 50 over 50”.
She has also been honoured with the Queen’s Jubilee Medal and received
the Distinguished Member Award of the Canadian Society for the Study of
Higher Education in 2006. She was selected five times as one of Atlantic
Business Magazine’s “Top 50 CEOs in Atlantic Canada” and in 2005, she
was one of the first four inductees into the “Top 50 CEOs in Atlantic
Canada Hall of Fame.”
Dr. Brown served on the Board of Nova Scotia Business Inc. for six years and is an active volunteer in her community. She currently serves as Chair of the SEASTAR Society, is Executive Vice-President for the Leadership of the International Women’s Forum of Canada and is a Board member of the Canadian Education Centres (CEC) Network.
