Peter
Englezos is a Professor in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering
at the University of British Columbia (UBC). In this capacity he has developed
an expertise in several fundamental and applied aspects of clathrate or
gas hydrates and has published extensively in the area including reviews
on clathrate hydrates, kinetics, energy and environmental aspects. His
research interests also include phase equilibrium thermodynamics and application
of water and colloid chemistry to papermaking.
Dr. Englezos received his Diploma in Chemical Engineering (B.Sc.) from the National Technical University of Athens (1981), his Master of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Calgary (1986) and his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Calgary (1990). In September 1990, he joined the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at UBC as an Assistant Professor.
Dr. Englezos is a member of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of BC; the Canadian Society for Chemical Engineering; the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and; the Pulp and Paper Association of Canada.
During his Ph.D. studies, Dr. Englezos was the recipient of an Izaak
Walton Killam Memorial Scholarship. Dr. Englezos was awarded a UBC Izaak
Walton Killam Memorial Faculty Research Fellowship for the period 1997-1998.
He received the Judges Special Award at the 1997 CPPA Pacific & Western
Branches Joint Technical Conference. In 1999, he was named Fellow of the
Tokyo Electric Power Company Endowed Chair at the Faculty of Science and
Technology of Keio University, Japan.
